Cheryl Cole’s wedding dress certainly isn’t traditional - would you wear a black dress on your big day?

If the last few weeks have taught us anything about the artist formerly known as Cheryl Cole, it’s that she just doesn’t do tradition anymore.

After escaping to Mustique for a secret ceremony earlier this month, the new Fernandez-Versinis threw a formal wedding party at private London club The Library last night – and this time they actually did invite all of their closest friends.

Shunning the classic white wedding meringue, both Cheryl and her new husband Jean-Bernard opted for all-black-everything at the bash - classic French chic styling principles, oui? The bride wore a dress by British couturiers Ralph & Russo, comprised of a velvet bodice (yes, in this heat) but cooled off with a sheer spliced skirt.

We think the statement was a little bit rebellious, totally modern and very sexy – the three principles that seem to have dominated Cheryl and Jean-Bernard’s relationship so far.

What do you think of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s black ‘wedding’ dress? Would you (or did you) wear a colour on your wedding day? Does it always have to be white? Tweet us your thoughts and pictures @marieclaireuk
