Singer says she hit ex-husband and relied on a cocktail of drugs to help her through Ashley Cole's infidelity
Cheryl Cole has revealed in her autobiography how she relied on a cocktail of pills to deal with husband Ashley’s infidelity.
In her frank new book, Cheryl: My Story, the singer, who is now dating dancer Tre Holloway, admits to being so distraught and heartbroken that she turned to tranquilisers to keep her going.
Cheryl also reveals that she was so angry at discovering her footballer hubby had cheated during their four-year marriage that she flew into a rage, admitting to ‘shaking him, kicking him, scratching his face, pushing and shoving him like I was a lunatic’ before crying uncontrollably.
When news of his affairs first appeared splashed across the tabloids, the 29-year-old says she hid out at Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh’s home where she was prescribed tranquilisers by a GP to help ease the pain.
‘Kimberley cried when she saw me,’ Cheryl writes in the book. ‘I was still in shock. I wasn’t in control of myself at all. I needed medical help.
‘I got pills off the doctor to calm me down and lay on Kimberley’s sofa. But I still couldn’t sleep.
‘We had a videoshoot for our new single coming up and my doctor gave me a vitamin injection in my bum to perk me up, but it didn’t work.’
The betrayed beauty says she went to a sexual health clinic for tests, revealing: ‘His infidelity had been putting me at risk for a long time – I had to put my mind at rest,’ before being given the all clear and fleeing to Thailand for a break.
‘It was now about two weeks after the initial allegations and, looking back, I was out of my head on tranquillisers,’ she wrote.
‘As soon as we got there I crashed out for two full days.
‘When I finally came out I sat on my own overlooking the beach. I didn’t know who I was any more, I thought.
‘I was a heartbroken girl, but who was I now without Ashley by my side? I knew I loved him and I didn’t want to end my marriage.’
In the autobiography, the pop singer also discusses her anger towards Simon Cowell after he sensationally sacked her from the X Factor USA last year, confessing to sending expletive-laden texts to the music mogul.
