Who says that when you break up with your other half you have to unleash a Hera type wrath upon your ex?

According to science, being friends with your ex could mean you're a psychopath, but looking at these friendly exes, we'd like to think that not being bitterly angry actually makes you quite sane.

Just look at Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen. They seem like they have a right laugh, don't they? And it's not often you can say that about someone you've decided it's best to part with...

The pair split up in 2003 after an eight year relationship. However, the two have a daughter together - Lily mo Sheen - and have remained not just friends, but total BFFs.

Most recent proof of this came just recently too when Kate posted a hilarious photo to Instagram where she, Michael and their daughter Lily Mo Sheen - who is now 17 years old - re-created an old photo from the day she was born.

Nailed it, guys.

And although the secret to a happy relationship is actually rather depressing, the break doesn't have to be.

Weeks before re-creating what was surely one of their most precious memories together, Kate and Michael bumped into each other at the premiere of Love & Friendship - while Michael brought his new girlfriend, Sarah Silverman - and the trio took the moment to pose for photos together and joke around.

It should have be awkward but wasn't and as a result, we're massively fangirling over these two right now.

But Kate and Michael aren't the only celebrities that have kept it amicable once they decided to call time on their romantic relationship...

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin famously 'consciously uncoupled' back in 2014, but have remained good pals (probably owing to the their twelve year-old daughter, Apple Martin) and are often seen having a giggle together. Gwyneth told Marie Claire Australia about their dynamics as exes, saying: "It's like we are still a family, but not a couple."

It's been 13 years since the couple divorced, but they're often seen meeting up as friends, sans their three kids Rafferty, Iris and Ruddy, and occasionally holidaying together as a family.

Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant

The pair's highly publicised 90s relationship came to a head in 2000, but they remain BFFs, so much so that Elizabeth is godmother to Hugh's child, while Hugh is godfather to hers. Liz said of her former flame: "We've been apart for longer than we were together. We were together for thirteen years and we've been friends for fifteen."

There was a moment when we thought their divorce was turning nasty, but since, the pair have found friendly ground for their young twins, Moroccan and Monroe. When news of Mariah engagement to James Packer came out, Nick congratulated the pair on Instagram, saying: "Congrats to @MariahCarey and James! May God Bless Your FutureUnion… #GreatPeople #GreatCouple."

Sweet.

Courtney and David met on the set of Scream in 1995 and everyone thought it would last forever. Since splitting in 2010, Courtney has wished her ex well, even telling More: "When you love someone, you want them to be happy, even if it's not with you." Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom

These two are very much on-and-off but when they're 'off', they've been the best of friends. When Lamar was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital unconscious late last year, Khloe was by his bedside until he made a full recovery.
