Britney Spears says dad Jamie saved her life

Britney Spears has revealed she believes her dad saved her life after giving up his job to look after his daughter when she had a breakdown.

Jamie Spears, a chef by trade, dropped everything to help look after Britney when she reportedly became suicidal and had to be whisked off to a psychiatric hospital.

The pop princess admitted that she rejected his offer of help at first, but that his care and attention was what eventually got her through her dark spell, which saw her shave her head and lose custody of her children.

According to the Metro, she said: 'I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. I owe him my life.'

The 26-year-old star said he 'basically gave up his job and his life to look after me at a time when I wasn't even sure I wanted to go on living.'

Meanwhile, the star is said to be 'excited' about gracing the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards again, and is hoping to make amends for her shambolic performance at last year's event.

She stated: 'MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMA's?'

Britney will open the show with our very own Russell Brand, and is nominated for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for her hit Piece of Me.
