HOLLYWOOD'S HOTTEST COUPLE Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have picked up £1 million-worth of Banksy works at a contemporary art auction in London.

We knew they had a penchant for adopting orphans, but, until now, they've kept their expensive taste in art close to their chests.

The auction, held at the Lazarides Gallery in Soho, saw works worth an estimated £10 million by artists, including Damien Hirst, go under the hammer.

The glamorous pair weren't there in person, but have the ultra-hip - and expensive - piece of art by the 'guerilla artist' winging its way to them as we write.

Other British art-keen celebrity buyers included Dennis Hopper, Ashley Olsen, Sean Pertwee and Paul Young.

The auction at The Shadow Lounge was organised by photographer-turned-gallerist Steve Lazarides, who is largely responsible for making Brit art popular in Hollywood.

This summer he held a sell-out Los Angeles show featuring other Banksies, which saw £3.2 million of art snapped up in two hours.

'The idea is to inject a little anarchy back on the staid, serious business of buying art,' he said of last night's auction.

'There is a whole new set of buyers. Whether they're rag trade, City boys or celebrities, they tend to be under 45.

'They've got money and they don't particularly want to spend it on a Picasso - they want to buy something that relates to their lives, their time and their culture.'
