Beyoncé made her exciting announcement at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, arriving with a tiny baby bump, and telling reporters: 'I have a surprise!'.

And according to movie website Deadline, the starlet - who's thought to be around four months along - was due to start work on the new movie in February next year.

But insiders say Eastwood was so keen to have Bey, the star of Oscar-winning 2006 movie Dreamgirls, involved that he agreed to put the new project on hold until the songstress is ready to get back to work.

Rumour has it film bosses are secretly pleased to push back the filming date, after Leonardo DiCaprio turned the leading role down, forcing them to find another actor.

Next year's remake will be the fourth version of the famous film, which has starred Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland and Kris Kristofferson in the past.

And with work on hold, yesterday pals came out to congratulate mum-to-be Beyoncé on her brilliant baby news.

'I have known for quite a while, and she's happy, and Jay is happy, and that's all that counts,' X Factor Judge and Bey's Destiny's Child bandmate revealed.

'I think she'll be an incredible mother, because she's always been motherly. I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think it's going to be so natural for her. Its natural for her now!'
