Alexa Chung claims US TV bosses didn't understand her Brit humour

Life as an English girl in New York doesn't appear to have gone smoothly for Alexa Chung - after her MTV show was axed, she now claims that US execs just didn't understand her style or humour.

Speaking to the Radio Times, she suggested TV bosses didn't seem used to dealing with women with opinions.

She revealed: 'They don't have the tone that T4 has anywhere in American TV. If you're a girl and you're my age, you're on a shiny night-time show and you've got your boobs hoiked up and you're not really giving opinions. You're merely a conduit.

As for her interviewing technique, and that came under fire too: 'Sometimes I'd be in the middle of interviewing - insert starlet's name here - and I'd aim to have a joke and be irreverent, and then it would transpire that they weren't getting it and I had to switch back and do a straight interview.'

And it wasn't just her methods they didn't get. She claims she cut her hair into a shaggy bob to avoid being just another blow-dried leading lady, but that she was constantly encouraged to have her locks preened, only to protest: 'No! It's meant to be like that.'

Chung is currently in the States, where she attended the Coachella festival with beau Alex Turner at the weekend.
