Adele Adkins and her boyfriend Simon Konecki have announced that they are expecting their first child together

Superstar singer Adele has announced that she is pregnant with her first child.

The multi-award winning British songstress took to her blog on her official website to break the news that she and boyfriend Simon Konecki are expecting, saying that they are both 'over the moon'.

She said: 'I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news direct from me. Obviously, we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx.'

Adele has been dating Simon, who runs the charity Drop4Drop, for just over six months, with the happy relationship coming after a series of heartbreaks that have inspired her critically acclaimed albums, 19 and 21.

Fellow celebrities took to their Twitter pages this weekend to congratulate the British star. Lily Allen, who gave birth to her first baby Ethel last year, said: 'Wow. Adele’s preggers! Congratumalations to her and Simon!'

American chat show host Ellen DeGeneres posted: '@OfficialAdele is pregnant! I’m so happy, I’m rolling in the deep! At least I think I am. I’m still not 100% sure what it means.'

The baby news caps off a fantastic year for Adele. Her latest album, 21, became the biggest selling release of last year, with a whopping 17 million copies sold around the world. In February, the singer stormed the Grammy Awards in America, scooping six gongs, then won two Brits a couple of weeks later.
