Abigail Breslin responds to ‘only reported rape count’ comment

The actress reveals why she didn't report her sexual assualt

You may best recognise 21-year-old Abigail Breslin from those ‘child actors then and now‘ stories you see online seeing as the actress was Oscar nominated for her role as Little Miss Sunshine back in 2006.

Since then, she’s had a whole horde of roles but most notably, she’s about to star in the Dirty Dancing remake.

But that’s not the only reason she’s been making headlines of late.

Having been vocal about her fight against sexual assault – and about how victims are perceived – across her Instagram, Abigail revealed her own experience when she posted the below image across her social media last week:

i knew my assailant. #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth #breakthesilence

She was mostly met with support but sadly some comments included sentences like ‘rape only counts when you report it.’

The actress has been active on social media about what needs to change when it comes to cases of rape and the way that the public and courts respect and react to victims.
