Fearne Cotton is heading into the New Year with a new look that has us green-eyed with envy.

No stranger to a spot of reinvention, the Radio 1 DJ has been talking us through her new haircut and how she copes with having every look scrutinised in a public forum. Gulp.

Debuting a shwooshy, shoulder-length bob in time for the launch of her new Christmas beauty collection at Boots, Fearne told us: 'I did it on a whim at a photoshoot.

'I thought ‘Oh my god I’m really bored of myself’ and I saw a picture of myself and my hair looked really lank and long, but without purpose. The next thing I knew I looked at the floor and there was five inches of hair by my feet! It feels really refreshing and I loved having a bob before, so it just feels really nice to be back having this style.

'It makes you feel a lot younger as well. I think at this point in life I’d quite like to regress back and feel a bit younger again. Whereas I spent the former part of my career trying to look more mature, now I get to try and look youthful again with is quite fun'

But after posting some teasing fringe pictures on Instagram, is the new mum considering taking her makeover a step further? 'Now I’ve done this, no,' she says with a slight shiver. 'I looked at some pictures of myself when I was 15 when I had a fringe, and I thought ‘that’s the reason why I should never do it’.'

And with so many paps waiting to document Fearne's bad hair day or, day we say, occassional wardrobe blunder (she's only human, after all), Fearne told us more about life under the public microscope.

'There are some horrors out there,' she confessed. 'I’ve worn some awful things and that’s just out there. These days I don’t really mind so much because if I’ve made a fashion mistake it’s probably more calculated and I’ve taken a chance for the fun of it'

We salute Fearne and her signature style, what do you think?
