There have been many weird and wonderful beauty treatments that claim to make you look better and live longer. Placenta shampoo is the latest. Yes, placenta. You read that correctly.
The organ connecting the fetus to the uterine wall to allow exchange of nutrition, gas and waste elimination via the mother’s blood, is now being used in hair care treatments.
La Bella shampoo and conditioner is blended with placenta enzyme, Vitamin E and panthenol to ‘repair split ends, restore manageability and renew shine and bounce.’
The product is available to buy on Amazon for just under £15 and is applied just as shampoo would.
Rich in proteins and zinc, ingredients of cow and sheep placenta are included, with only in traditional Chinese medication using the human equivalent.
Another placenta product on the market, ‘Henna ‘n’ Placenta’, is used like a hair mask after applying shampoo and conditioner to ‘repair strength of dry and lifeless hair.’
Popular in ancient Egypt, the placenta has often played an important role in various cultures across the world. It was believed that Marie Antoinette even drank placenta as a nutritious drink.
