Before last year, we’d never heard of them and then just like that, they seemed to be everywhere.
But BB creams have been a beauty staple on the Eastern shores for quite some time. The ‘BB’ part stands for Blemish Balms – multi-tasking make-up that has skincare benefits too. Sounds good, no?
So what makes them different from a tinted moisturiser? Well, there are a fair few similarities and both give a light, natural coverage as an alternative to foundation.

But BB creams soothe redness, combat uneven skintone, act as primers and brighten up lacklustre skin.
They come in different varieties too so you can tailor them to your particular skin type (though they don’t treat spots, so anyone with this particular skin problem might want to look elsewhere).
All the best beauty brands have now cottoned on and launched their own BB creams - so there’s plenty of choice out there. I'm a particular fan of Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, MAC, Dr Jart and Garnier BB Creams.

I predict that by next year, BB Creams will be as familiar a staple in our make-up bags as foundation or powder - if they haven’t replaced them altogether, that is!
