Are you buying the wrong foundation?

Makeup bag - News - Marie Claire Rex Features

British women are wasting a fortune buying the wrong foundation.

The average British woman spends a whopping £125 and tries seven different foundations before finding the right one, according to a new survey commissioned by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.

Other findings include: 42% of British women say their worst beauty nightmare is a foundation ‘tide line’ (mask like effect, with different colour face & neck). This compares with 16% of women who dread smudged lipstick, 15% who worry about wobbly eyeliner and 14% who fret about creased eye shadow.

The survey also revealed that British women throw away over 94 million pieces of makeup every year because they are dissatisfied with the product.

With so many of us willing to persevere and invest hard-earned cash in the search for the perfect product, the survey reflects the importance of foundation in our cosmetics wardrobe, and the frustrations and expense incurred by women trying find the right formula and colour.

International celebrity make-up artist Bobbi Brown comments: ‘One of the most common errors women make when choosing a foundation is that they try to add colour to their skin – foundation is only there to even out skin tone not to add colour. Always begin with a test to choose the colour to your natural skin tone, swatch a few shades on the side of the face and the correct one will disappear.’

‘Many women think foundation is all about heavy, mask-like makeup, but it’s not. The right product should look like you’re not wearing any foundation at all - but that you just have great looking skin. To achieve this, you not only need to choose the right colour, but need to find the correct texture, tools and formula for your complexion.’

i agree with this, i have spent hundreds of pounds on foundation, so many different brands such as estee lauder, clinique and elizabeth arden, mac, make up forever, avon, no7, rimmel, revlon. i have now converted to trying mineral foundations and have for the moment settled with jane iredale purepressed mineral foundation, it is the best so far but im not completely satisfied with it, you have to be very carefull when applying and use the right products along side it to make it look any good.
