Best beauty products in the world
By Carla Bevan on Tuesday 31 March 2009
marie claire last night celebrated the world's very best beauty products with a glitzy party at Claridge's.
Hosted by the ever-lovely Davina McCall (pictured right with our Acting Beauty Director, Lisa Oxenham), our annual Prix D'Excellence de la Beauté awards sees just a handful of make-up, skin and bodycare items, all rigorously tested by beauty editors around the world, honoured as the very best in their categories.
So after the Champagne had been drunk and the canapés guzzled, who won what this year?
The five international winners, voted for by marie claire beauty editors from as far a field as Russia, Brazil and Italy, were Guerlain Terracotta Sunless Self-Tanning Range, Clarins Body Shaping Supplement, Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Lipstick, Givenchy Phenomen'eyes High-Precision Mascara and Giorgio Armani Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup SPF12. There was also a special research prize for Estée Lauder's Perfectionist [CP+] Range, which the judges praised for its ability to reduce the appearance of lines by up to 61 per cent over four weeks.
With just three special British winners, competition was even tighter with hundreds of products up for consideration.
In the end, the three products which triumphed were Max Factor Masterpiece Glide & Define Liquid Eyeliner, in the Make-up category; Prescriptives Good in Bed Skin Restoring Night Moisturizer, in the Beautycare category; and Kiehl's Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser, in the special Fashion with Heart category, designed to celebrate products with an ethical stance.
With all the winners set for sell-out success over the next few days, we've already got our orders in. Race you to Boots!
