New deodorant reduces underarm hair

A new deodorant that claims to slow down underarm hair growth is set to launch in the UK next month.

Developed by Unilever, the Sure and Dove Hair Minimising deodorants will come as both sprays and roll-ons, when they hit shops in January.

Three years in the making, the innovative new products promise to slow down the growth of underarm hair, and make it finer as well. Not designed to replace hair removal, Unilever does claim that the deodorants will reduce irritation caused by regrowth.

A change is reportedly apparent after just four weeks of use, although growth will quickly return to normal if the product is no longer used.

Murray Bisschop, senior deodorant manager at Unilever, explained to The Grocer, 'This gives women all the efficacy of Dove and Sure deodorants with an advanced added beauty benefit that no other deodorant brand currently offers.'

The company has high hopes for the revolutionary new product, predicting it will generate £10 million in 2009 and that a third of women will switch from their current deodorants to the new variety.

Eeuww! No thanks. Why apply a product with dubious chemicals directly to skin and near your glands?!

At last, a product that I really need! I am dark haired and always find underarm hair a real problem. I tend to use a razor as my skin is quite sensitive to other methods. I will definitely be buying this. Will save me money in the long run on razor blades!

I have only just found a deodorant that doesn't have aluminium in it, I think I'll give this one a miss

Avon used to sell something like this years ago - I don't know if they still do...

As an ex cancer care nurse, and having had a breast cancer myself, I would not trust this so close to the underarm glands. It will probably be more expensive than other ones also! Wait and see what people say about it first!!

In theory it sounds great! But I would also have reservations as to the chemicals are required to do such a thing and I would be wary of possible side effects.

That's right, more products to damage and pollute our bodies - just what we need!! What's wrong with a bit of sweat and hair?? If you need to remove then wax or shave!

Well if it costs an arm and a leg is it really worth the potential health risks? Any idea how much this product is going to cost?

I use the body shop deodorant without aluminum, I would like a guarantee that the new deodorant won't affect my skin. As most make me go red and swell, even though they state that they are "ph" balanced etc.
