This is why Keira Knightley has been wearing a wig for years

Hair loss happens to even the best of us...

Turns out being a Hollywood actress isn’t all high octane glamour. Or at least, it’s not for Keira Knightley.

Having played everything from a pirate princess to football fanatic, medieval maiden to Russian aristocracy, Keira has had to undergo transformation after transformation to get into character.

Unfortunately, these makeovers took their toll on her hair. In a recent interview with InStyle, the actress revealed that that she’s had to use wigs on screen for the last five years after dying her hair so frequently for roles caused it to fall out.

‘It got so bad that my hair literally began to fall out of my head,' she said in an interview with InStyle. ‘So for the past five years I’ve used wigs, which is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to my hair.’

Thinning hair is said to affect 74% of women in the UK, with hair loss becoming an increasingly common problem. But if, like Keira, dying has left you follically-challenged, don’t despair – it will grow back according to the actress.

With her hair having now returned to its original state, Keira explained that it had changed once again after she gave birth to her daughter Edie last year. ‘I have naturally crazy, curly hair and since I’ve had the baby, it’s become ten times thicker. So now I’ve been finding quite a lot of dreadlocks.’

But rather than worry about her newly luscious locks, Keira has decided to take a more relaxed approach to styling her hair. ‘My new approach is, ‘Do what you can remember, and don’t worry about it too much,’ she explained.

Wise words, Keira. Wise words.
