 British women spend an average of £83,498 on clothes in a lifetime Sure Women

The average woman buys 3109 items of clothing, adding up to a whooping £83,498 over a lifetime, according to new research.

The findings from Sure Women Linen Dry show that we are a nation of shoe lovers with the average woman possessing 271 pairs - that's an average splurge of £13,898.

Dresses and bags are the next most popular items in our wardrobes with a typical woman stashing 185 dresses and 145 bags amounting to £7,699 and £5,420 respectively.

The Duchess of Cambridge recently hit the headlines when it was revealed her wardrobe for the last financial year cost an approximate £35,000, however, as these figures show, even women who aren't under the scrutiny of the public eye like to invest in their wardrobe, too.

Regionally women in Northern Ireland are the biggest shopaholics with an average spend of £256,004 over a lifetime, while women in London spend an average of £155,364.

Age-wise under 25s splash out on average £129,903.

Yet, despite the figures, 60 per cent of women admitted they still struggle to find something to wear for an evening out.
