NearFar - hot new brand alert!
By Lucy Halfhead on Monday 8 March 2010
Launching in American cult store Anthropologie this week, NearFar is a unique ethical brand set to take the thinking girl's wardrobe to another level.
Set up by Goldsmiths graduate and future fashion-star Stephanie Hogg, NearFar combines beautiful design with traditional Sierra Leonean prints to create a stunning collection of wearable yet highly original pieces.
Already a hit with the fash-pack, now's your chance to get your hands on an outfit as the pieces hit the rails today. We heart the super cute playsuits, high-waisted shorts (£58) and elegant shift dresses (£98), all with an ethical twist.

Not just a pretty face, NearFar works with organisations that train young Sierra Leonoeans in the art of tailoring. After 10 years of civil war the country was left with many uneducated and unemployed young people. Many of the tailors have lived as street children, been victims of commercial sex trade or been subjected to domestic abuse.

Stephanie's commitment to this cause is demonstrated by the fact that 10% of all sales is reinvested into the training of young tailors.
The collection is available at Anthropologie, Area 142, Wickle, Scarlett, Landmark and www.nearfar.co.uk.

I was recently shopping on the Kings Road and saw Ms Hogg's high-waisted shorts at Anthropologie. The mix between African prints and European cuts works really well! It is always rewarding to see young graduates coming from a non-fashion background coming with up with creative ideas such as these. Combined with an ethical awareness second to none Ms Hogg has outshone many current start-up designers.
