Marian Keyes, the famous female novelist, has revealed she is currently batting a ‘crippling' bout of depression.
Speaking to her fans in her online January newsletter headlined ‘Laid Low' Keyes said; ‘I'm very sorry but this is going to be a very short piece as I am laid low with crippling depression.'
‘Regular readers know that I have been prone to depression on and off over the years but this is in a totally different league. This is much much worse'.
Keyes' post has prompted an outpouring of support from fans who relate to her work.
‘It breaks my heart to think of you suffering from these things when it's your work I turn to when I'm feeling the same way,' says one fan, Erica, in response to her blog.
‘Your writing helps me to laugh at myself and at those horrible, irrational thoughts that bring me down. I know from the other posts that I'm not the only one you've helped.'
Keyes has notched up sales of over 22 million with best sellers including Watermelon, Sushi for Beginners and The Other side of the Story.
Her latest novel, 'The Brightest Star in the Sky' was released in November last year and went straight into the UK bestseller charts at number 3.
Apologising to fans she wrote ‘So amigos, I'm sorry to abandon you for the moment. Full service will be restored at some point, I hope'.
Everyone at Marie Claire wishes Marion a speedy recovery.
