Modern brides suffer from 'multiple dress syndrome'

It's happening in America, which means it's only a matter of time before we're doing it here: brides-to-be are buying several wedding dresses before their big day.

The New York Times has reported that multiple dress purchases are an increasing new trend. They spoke to several brides who confessed to being unable to stop at just one.

This is partly because they want to be sure they've got the perfect dress. One woman, Annie Hunter, bought four dresses before her wedding last August. Two were from a sample sale, one was designer, and the fourth she bought online. 'We had a small ceremony first and then a more formal service, so I could wear more than one,' she explains.

Afterwards, many brides resell them on sites like PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com. Owner Josie Daga is slightly surprised by this new phenomenon, but says that some women who sell on her site have owned up to buying six or seven dresses. 'They are a little bit ashamed of it,' she says, 'but with longer engagements and the excitement around the wedding industry, the dress is often the first thing they buy. And buy!'

The recession has made the resale of wedding dresses even more popular, so if you do end up buying several dresses before you walk up the aisle, you can rest assured that someone else with have one of them - if not all of them - after your big day is over.

I guess it's a bit like the groom - you have to try a few until you find exactly the right one!! It's a bit much though, one lovely frock should be enough
