Three cups of tea a day keeps the doctor away...

Marie Claire Health News: Tea

Tea addicts everywhere can now bask in the knowledge that their taste for the drink is actually doing their health a lot of good.

New studies show that regular tea drinkers have a 25% lower chance of developing Type 2 diabetes compared to those who drink tea occasionally, or not at all.

Almost 80% of Britons are tea drinkers, consuming 165 million cups a day. Diabetes affects 2.3 million people in the UK.

But there's good news for coffee drinkers, too. The study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine journal, showed that drinking regular and decaffeinated coffee was also linked to a reduced risk of developing diabetes.

Dr Carrie Ruxton from the Tea Advisory Panel said, 'this may be due to the variety of compounds present in tea, including antioxidants'. So what are you waiting for? Go and put the kettle on!
