Brides put on a stone in first year of marriage
By Laura Millar on Thursday 3 December 2009
It's a safe bet that most brides-to-be will have spent months trying to shift a few extra pounds to look their best on the big day. But new research has found that after the wedding's over, they're not as strict with their diets.
The survey, carried out by Yakult, found out that 22% of newlyweds put on an average of 21lbs - nearly a stone and a half - within 12 months of tying the knot. More than half the women who took part confessed that they no longer worried about their weight or appearance, and one in five revealed they overindulged during the honeymoon.
42% admitted they simply felt too relaxed with their new husband, while 22% felt they no longer needed to try and impress their partner after they got that ring on their finger.
A spokesman for Yakult said, 'For months, losing weight and getting into perfect shape for the wedding is the most important thing for brides-to-be. But then they relax into their new routine and forget those little things they used to do to ensure they were always looking their best for their partner.'
It seems there's no greater motivation for keeping in shape than the prospect of having all your friends and family focusing their attention on you for a day. Adds the Yakult spokesman, 'even when you're married, it's still important to keep putting in the effort.' You have been warned!
