Who wore it best? Mariah Carey vs Kate Winslet: Zac Posen black dress

Every woman knows that the little black dress is a failsafe choice for instant elegance, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that both Kate Winslet and Mariah Carey tapped Zac Posen's floor-skimming stunner for seriously high profile events.

February's BAFTA Awards was the night in question for the Brit beauty, where she was not only nominated, but collected the prestigious gong for best actress.

For her winning moment, Ms Winslet teamed the figure-hugging mermaid dress with a chic chignon, diamond drop earrings and a timeless glittering bracelet.

Ms Carey's Posen fashion fix was just last week, when she hit the red carpet for a screening of her new flick, Precious.

Both A-listers kept things simple, sticking to minimal accessories and soft natural make-up, but Mariah chose to leave her locks loose and tumbling.

Hate to say it but Mariah pips Kate to the post - she looks stunning. Maybe it is the shock factor because Kate always looks elegant but Mariah is usually so slummy

I totally expected Kate to win as she is generally so much more classy, but I have to say that Mariah carries this one off. I think that's probably the best look I've ever seen on her. Nice to be surprised!

Definitely Mariah thought I wouldn't have expected it. Kate no longer quite seems to have the curves to fillit and she looks a bit washed out. That's not to say she doesn't look pretty fab anyway, but Mariah blows her out of the water!

I think Kate, Mariah does have perfect curves so you could say fits it better, but Kate has tried harder with the perfect accesories and hair. I say Kate! x

Well ..they are both too different...Kate wears it ala 30s or 40s style and Mariah the same era but with a gangstersmoll swish to it..They both look ok.
Have to agree with comments about Mariah..she looks great in simple styling and Kate always has good styling.

For me its Mariah for the simple reason that her height means that where the dress falls it fits exactly how it should where it should and looks exactly like a mermaid, Im afraid Kate is too short for this one!
