Kelly Brook: 'Ant and Dec ruined my career'

By Eleanor Young  on Friday 30 October 2009

Kelly Brook - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

In her first newspaper interview since leaving Britain's Got Talent, British starlet Kelly Brook has opened up about being axed from the show.

Just six days into the filming the new series, Kelly was removed from the judging panel.

At the time, reports suggested that it was Simon Cowell who sent the star home, after deciding the new format wasn't working.

But now Kelly has revealed she was dumped after upsetting presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

'There was nothing I could do in this country after Britain's Got Talent,' she said. 'The people at ITV were telling me that I had upset Ant and Dec and that was it.

'I would love to have stayed on the show. I really felt it was working out. Ant and Dec had never been anything but pleasant to my face but, clearly, they didn't want me on the show.'

Previously, Ant and Dec talked about the incident in their autobiography, telling of how Kelly turned up on her first day never having watched Britain's Got Talent, even asking what they did on the show.

The event doesn't seem to have affected Kelly's career too badly, though.

The TV beauty is poised to take over Jerry Hall's role when she leaves the West End production of Calendar Girls in November.

I don't know why, but I've never particularly warmed to kelly brook... but then as they say, there's no smoke without fire. I just can't imagine ant and dec behaving like that, they seem so nice
Comment by Stephanie on October 30 10:40

I imagine Kelly is actually a really lovely person, and is probably too nice for the cruel world of showbiz, which is possibly why she hasn't had too much success.
Comment by Josie on October 30 10:54

I don't think she is very bright to be honest... remember watching her read an autocue once and it was quite a painful experience
Comment by Jen on October 30 11:45

She was awful on celebrity love island. And fancy turning up to your first day on the job not having even watched the programme? That's beyond ridiculous.
Comment by Sarah on October 30 11:52

I agree with Sarah, imagine turning up to a job interview and not having a clue what the company does. She must be really out of touch with reality. She is probably a nice person but thick.
Comment by Denise Wilden on October 30 12:45

Career?! What is she famous for again? She only got anywhere for being attractive, she is completely talentless. There are plenty of people out there who can present/judge a show ten times better than Kelly can. I'm sure she's a nice girl and everything but her presenting 'skills' are truly awful!!
Comment by Becks on October 30 12:56

If you turned up to *any* job on your first day and said you didn't know what it entailed, you won't last long amongst your new colleagues.

I don't feel sorry for her at all. If she IS implying they "ruined her career" (or perhaps the title is media sensationalism) she deserved all she got for making a big drama out something she caused.

No sympathy for her at all.
Comment by Louise on October 30 13:00

Nice one Ant and Dec, she's probably got away with being ditsy in the past because of how she looks. Well done Ant and Dec for expecting more to be brought to the table. As for her protestations ... I think that she did more to ruin her own career than Ant & Dec did.
Comment by Joanne on October 30 13:04

She can't be that dim if she's never watched the show. Shows excellent taste to my mind.
Comment by Val on October 30 13:12

Ant and Dec are consumate professionals at the top of their game and Kelly Brook is???????????????
Comment by pauline on October 30 13:15

Kelly was axed from C4's Breakfast show years ago coz she was a complete wooden top... clearly still is. Although, yeah probably a really nice person..just thick!
Comment by Val on October 30 13:16

I agree with Sarah and Denise, new job - no clue!! Crikey!
Not the brightest button in the box is she?

Never liked her! Still don't
Comment by GDB on October 30 13:20

A good friend of mine was introduced to Ant and Dec and found them to be rude and dismissive. Kelly was not right for the job, she is obviously far too nice, unlike trout pout Holden who would probably sell her own mother to get on in the world.
Comment by CG on October 30 13:46

Not really suited to the show methinks ..ant and dec..they are both two different worlds..

Comment by anon on October 30 14:08

I do wonder about these talentless celebraties
(brats indeed)
As others have already commented "what career" & what are you actually famous for?
I seriously feel a lot of them (celebraties)are deluded & if your "Career" is going so well why have you got to appear on some reality show really...
Can you really see the likes of Emma Thompson & people of this ilk appearing on any of them???

If she thinks Ant & Dec gave her a hard time
role on the "Calender Girls" the West End critics are fearce!!!
Comment by Sandra frm London on October 30 14:09

I watched her on that and on previous programmes such as love island and big breakfast. Her performance has been consistantly bad and does come across as thick.
Comment by Shena on October 30 14:51

It was certainly bad form to turn up on your first day with no clue as to the programme format or what each persons role was, but is that really an excuse to kick her off? Lets face it, celebs get hired for what they can bring to a show & for the publicity they can generate, not for their educational qualifications!
Kelly appears to be a big personality & very sparkly...perhaps Ant & Dec thought they'd be out-shone!!
Comment by Tina on October 30 15:42

I agree with previous comments. I would never envisage turning up for a job interview (nevermind the actual first day of work) without having a clear understanding of the role and where it fits in to the existing structure. Had she applied for a job which I was recruiting for, she would have not lasted 5 minutes in the interview.

Although I personally can't stand the show, I never understood what she was expected to bring to the programme. What exactly is her expertise and who thought she would be the right person to pass comment on other people?

Comment by Claire on October 30 15:55

This girl should stick to what she is good at. Taking her clothes off and making money from modelling. She's not meant to use her brain - there's not a lot of it. She's very pretty, very nice and all that but quite dense.
Comment by Liz on October 31 10:55

I can't believe Kelly Brook is saying all that about Ant and Dec. And to think they said, "She's a great girl and she looked fabulous, but if anyone had asked us straight off we'd have said it's almost irrelevant. It could have been anybody and it wouldn't have worked."

Comment by refreshingocean on November 01 12:16

emmmmm....there's no debate here - she didn't deny their allegations of her ill-prepared approach to the job...she's basically saying that, inadvertently, SHE destroyed her own career, and deservedly so....
Comment by Anon on November 02 16:03

No matter how nice kelly or ant & dec are... this is showbiz, you need to know your job.. it's just utterly stupid turning up on an interview without knowing what to do!?
Plus, these people are paid big to do their job... now it's even more stupid that you never do ur homework before the show.
I really dont blame the lads for being upset with her... it's just ridiculous.
But i feel this report wrote too harsh on the lads.. They are not like that, very very nice people.
Kelly is just being a baby, i feel.
Imagine kelly asking the lads 'What's with this .... things? What do we have to do?' Wouldn't you be angry??
