The Pill makes macho men a turn off

By Lucy Halfhead  on Thursday 8 October 2009

The Pill

While the Pill has revolutionised the lives of women over the last 40 years, it has also altered their taste in men, a new study has revealed.

Scientists have discovered halting the monthly surges in hormones by taking the oral contraceptive, has stopped a woman's interest in muscular, macho men and more attracted to boyish men.

The study also found that women who use the Pill, which regulates their hormones, don't experience a ‘fertility flush' each month, helping them to appear more attractive to men.

If this theory is right, the researchers claim it could help to explain the shifting in tastes from macho 1950s and 1960s stars such as Sean Connery to the more boyish film stars like Johnny Depp.

'There are many obvious benefits of the Pill for women, but there is also the possibility that the Pill has psychological side-effects that we are only just discovering,' says Dr Alexandra Alvergne, from the University of Sheffield. 'We need further studies to find out what these are.'
