Good sex ‘keeps women healthy’
By Lucy Halfhead on Wednesday 30 September 2009
Women who rate themselves as fulfilled in the bedroom are also much healthier in general, according to research in Australia.
Researchers recruited women aged between 20-65 for the study, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Quoted in the The Telegraph, Dr Sonia Davison, of the Women's Health Program at Monash University said: ‘We wanted to explore the links between sexual satisfaction and wellbeing in women and to see if there was any difference between pre and postmenopausal women.'
'We found that women who were sexually dissatisfied had lower wellbeing and lower vitality. This finding highlights the importance of addressing these areas as an essential part of women's health care, because women may be uncomfortable discussing these issues with their doctor.'
The research also found that women who described themselves as unfulfilled in the bedroom were not always those having less sex.
