Alexandra Burke: 'X Factor pulled my family apart'

Alexandra Burke reveals winning The X Factor has changed her life - but her sudden success has had a dramatic effect on her family.

In our exclusive interview with the Hallelujah singer, Alex admits winning the show has caused a rift with her mother and may even be responsible for her brother's attempted suicide.

Alex's mother, Melissa Bell, had her own success with the band Soul II Soul in the 1980s.

But Melissa has struggled to come to terms with her daughter's own success after winning The X Factor.

'She had Soul II Soul but it didn't last as long as she wanted it to last. Then I get this big new show, I win it and it's weird for her to see this,' says Alex.

Alex, 21, also fears her new-found fame may have contributed to her younger brother Aaron's attempted suicide a few months ago

She reveals that Aaron struggles to believe that he can also be a success.

She says, 'He doesn't acknowledge the good things about himself. He's a good actor... He's a great lad, but he just looks at the things he can't do and gets depressed.'

But Alex is determined not to let fame change her and is happily ignoring advice from her management, including music mogul Simon Cowell.

'They say "Stop wearing your heart on your sleeve", but there's nothing I can do because it's me,' she says.
