They were on a break!

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Friends

Good news! That coffee shop sofa is set to be filled with Monica, Rachel, Ross, Joey, Phoebe and Chandler once again.

The six stars of Friends have signed up to film a movie of the award-winning TV show.

It's thought the success of the Sex and the City film has spurred the cast into agreeing to a film of the small-screen show.

'The cast haven't set the world alight since the show finished,' a source tells the News of the World.

'But this film could relight some of their flagging careers in a big way.'

James Michael Tyler, who plays Gunther - the owner of the Central Perk coffee shop - confirmed a film was in the pipeline.

'Friends: The Movie is definitely on. I still keep in touch with a lot of the cast and they say they are really keen,' he reveals.

The film will be the first time Jennifer Aniston, 40, Courteney Cox, 45, Lisa Kudrow, 46, Matt LeBlanc, 42, David Schwimmer, 42 and Matthew Perry, 40, have been back together since the show finished in 2004.

Since then, the cast have had varying levels of career success - spin-off series Joey, anyone? Exactly.

The source says, 'The show did lose a lot of its shine in the last few seasons, but with all the actors in their 40s, it would be a real interest to see how their characters have developed.'

Friends' creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman have also been called back to write and produce the film version of the series.

The new film is due to be released in the summer of 2011. Could we BE anymore excited?!!

OMG. Fantastic news IF it is really true.
When one of the six main characters confirm it, then we can get excited. At present the info is just coming from a 'bit-part actor' who would love to be part of a spin off film. Personally I feel, the like of Jennifer Aniston & David Schwimmer have moved on and distanced themselves. I doubt whether they would want to identify with their old roles from Friends.
Sad but true.
