'Alesha's great' says Strictly's Mr Nasty

Alesha Dixon - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

Alesha Dixon has found an unusual supporter in Strictly Come Dancing's Mr Nasty - Craig Revel Horwood.

Craig defended Alesha in her new role as a judge on the dance contest, saying viewers should give her a chance.

He said the backlash against the singer taking over from Arlene Phillips on the show was 'horrendous' and asked her 'crazy' critics to let her settle into her new role.

Alesha was unveiled as the new judge a few months ago, but more than 500 fans have since signed an online petition calling to bring back Arlene.

'This backlash is just horrendous. I don't think she deserves it,' Craig told The Mirror.

'Look at any of the recordings that Bruno, Len, myself or Arlene did early on; it has taken us a long period of time to get used to the format.

'Alesha has a lot to say. She has been through it and won it... We have got to give her a chance.'

The new series of Strictly started on Friday and the BBC said it has received over 270 complaints about Alesha's performance on the judging panel.

Alesha, 30, won the contest in 2007 and says she is qualified to comment on the stars' performances.

'I do know what I am talking about. People forget I had four months of solid training with the world champion, 10 hours a day,' she says.

'It's not like I've been picked off the street, like, 'go and judge a dancing show'.'

Craig, 44, agrees that Alesha is doing a great job.

'It makes me really angry that people are having a go at her. Give her a chance, for goodness sake. It's just crazy,' he said.
