Red hair dye sales on the rise
By Bridget Freer on Thursday 13 August 2009
Sales of red hair dye rose by 22% last weekend thanks to Cheryl Cole, the Girls Aloud singer and trend setter.
Since appearing at the weekend with newly dyed red locks, Cheryl Cole has sparked a hair revolution, with supermarket Asda reporting massive increases in sales of red-hair dye. Cheryl follows in the footsteps of band-mate Nicola Roberts, as well as other famous stars including Nicole Kidman, Marcia Cross, Lindsay Lohan and model du jour Lily Cole.
Anna Coote, Asda Health & Beauty Manager, comments, 'Cheryl Cole’s fashion and beauty regime regularly turns heads but now shoppers are flocking into store for a quick fashion fix with a packet of hair dye. Cheryl’s new colour could be the new ’Rachel’ or ‘Posh Bob’ for 2009.'
Cheryl is famed for spending thousands of pounds on keeping up her high standards, reportedly spending £30,000 on an exercise bike. Anna adds, 'A packet of ASDA's hair dye is just £1.47 so it a great value way to create a celebrity-styled new look overnight, so we’ll be making sure we have plenty in stock compared to the usual favourite colours such as honey-blonde, chestnut and mahogany.'
