He may be known for his love of labels, but Kanye West has kicked off his fashion career with far humbler roots, and signed up to learn the basics with an internship at Gap.

The superstar singer has started a work experience placement at the retailer's New York head office, in an attempt to gets to grips with the style business.

A source revealed to US Weekly, 'Fashion is Kanye’s main priority at the moment. He wants to get his own brand started.'

And far from using her superstar status to work his way up the ladder, Mr West is reportedly mucking in with his fellow interns 'He works all the time, and one Friday night recently, he stayed until 12 am. He's learning the fashion business from the inside and trying to do it quietly.'

This is apparently not the first time that Kanye has joined the work experience ranks – he has previously done similar stints at Louis Vuitton and Raf Simons.
