The 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards – the Oscars of the style world – took place last night, and saw Hollywood's chicest stars out to honour their favourite designers.

Taking place at the Avery Fisher Hall in New York, the night was a veritable who's who of the fashion industry, with designers and their A-list muses out in force.

The night's big winners included Rodarte design duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who bagged the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year Award, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler nabbed Accessory Designer of the Year, while the International Award went to Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.

Adding yet another endorsement to his growing style status, Jason Wu, who shot to fame thanks to Michelle Obama's penchant for his elegant designs, won the Swarovski Womenswear Award for Emerging Talent. Meanwhile the First Lady herself was recognised, receiving the CFDA's Board of Directors' Special Tribute.

And though the night may have been all about the designers, their stylish muses stole the show.

Arriving on the arm of the man himself, Diane Kruger had the fashion pack swooning over her Jason Wu red-hot minidress, and she wasn't the only star embracing their bright side.

Blake Lively was glowing and gorgeous in a fuschia Michael Kors bandeau dress, while fashion maven Ashley Olsen went floor-length in a scarlet vintage gown.

Metallics and monochromes still had their red carpet moment, with Agyness Deyn and Heidi Klum shimmering in silver, and Claire Danes and Melissa George flying the flag for the classic floor-length LBD.
