Girls on tour: the hottest stars hit the stage

Fashion gets futuristic this season – think metallics, bold shoulders and sculptural cuts - and nowhere have the stars embraced the trend more than on stage.

With a host of the world's hottest female stars touring this summer, when it comes to the costume rails, style has a distinct sci-fi edge.

Take Ms Sasha Fierce herself, Beyoncé Knowles. Enlisting the help of fashion legend Thierry Mugler, the singer struts her way through a multitude of costume changes, including an eye-popping glittering gold corset, thigh-skimming leather minidress, a full length black leather coat and an array of bejewelled leotards.

Perhaps the pioneer of the look, Lady Gaga has been rocking a quirky brand of futurism since her stratospheric rise to fame, and rather than mellow with success, her ensembles have just got more out-there.

On tour she can be spotted in a series of seriously skimpy sculptural one-pieces, as well as a nude bodysuit covered entirely with clear plastic bubbles.

Bringing the style to British soil, Girls Aloud show off their picture-perfect physiques during the Out of Control Tour, in cut-away leotards, with plenty of peek-a-boo panels, while Cheryl Cole champions the look in a peplum skirted corset and over-the-knee boots.

Less futuristic, but no less skimpy, and Britney Spears proved that she was well and truly back, taking to the stage for her Circus tour in a repertoire of looks, where just one thing is common – if it's not pin-flashing, then it’s not in.

Whether as the ringmaster, a lion tamer or police officer, the Toxic singer ensured she silenced her critics, flaunting her toned bod in hotpants, leotards and fishnet tights.
