Could Jamie Foxx play Frank Sinatra?
By Ellie O'Mahoney on Monday 18 May 2009
Actor, singer and comedian Jamie Foxx is emerging as the strongest contender to play Frank Sinatra in the upcoming Martin Scorsese biopic of the singer.
An unknown source described him as ‘perfect’ for the role.
It would be a significant piece of casting, as it would mark one of the most prominent examples of ‘colour-blind’ casting in Hollywood history.
Other actors said to be in the running are George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harry Connick Jnr and Justin Timberlake.
A source told the Daily Express: ‘Cool is colour-blind. Jamie would seem to be born to the role.
‘Magnificent singing voice, totally convincing acting ability, like Frank himself, born the wrong side of the tracks, rags to riches, makes it big against the odds, has his brushes with authority. The guy's a gift.’
Foxx, 41, won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 film Ray. He has also made a series of hit albums.
