Cynthia Nixon has announced her engagement to girlfriend Christine Mariononi.

The Sex and the City star announced the happy news - and showed off her ring - at the 75th annual Drama League Awards in New York.

The bash was the perfect place to reveal the news, being a rally that fights for same-sex marriages and equal rights.

Nixon was not accompanied by her partner to the bash, where other guests included the likes of Elton John, but, instead, was joined by Sex and the City co-star, Kristin Davis.

Cynthia has two children, a son and a daughter, from her previous 15-year relationship with English professor Danny Mozes, and has been dating Christine since 2003.
