Michelle Ryan is being lined-up to play Doctor Who’s assistant – after losing out last time to current assistant, Freema Agyeman.

BBC insiders say she will be given a second chance, and could now star alongside the new Time Lord, Matt Smith.

Matt was announced as the 11th – and, at 26, the youngest ever – Doctor Who, and will soon take over current star David Tennant.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: ‘Michelle's been in secret talks with BBC bosses.

‘They are likely to announce her as Doctor Who's new assistant very soon. She is perfect for the role. She is good looking and the right age to star alongside Matt.

'Everyone agrees they look great together and reckon fans will think they're the perfect team, too.’

Michelle became famous in Britain when she played the role of Zoe Slater in EastEnders.

The star then swapped Walford for Hollywood, and starred in NBC's Bionic Woman, a remake of the 1970s TV favourite.

But US audiences did not take to it, and its run lasted for just eight episodes.

Michelle consequently returned to British soil – and now looks set to continue her successful run here as the Time Lord’s second in command.

Surely they will write the scripts first, then cast an actor for the role, after they decide what the character is going to be. This is jumping the gun again. Like everyone did with the Doctor.

Bring back Tate! She was fantastic. But yes, most of this is probably not true. Though Michelle Ryan is more likely than Lily Allen, who is also rumored to be taking on the part.

I think she's a great actor. And gorgeous too! Good choice by the producers.
