George Bush ducks as shoes thrown at him during press conference
Who throws a shoe? Well, apparently an Iraqi journalist as a farewell gesture to President George W Bush and his US regime, it would seem.
The US President narrowly missed being taken out by a pair of flying shoes, slung by an Iraqi journalist at a Baghdad press conference over the weekend.
The angry writer threw both shoes at Mr Bush at close range shouting: 'It is the farewell kiss, you dog.'
With lightening quick reflexes, the President ducked down for the first attack and narrowly missed the second shoe.
And the significance of throwing shoes, as opposed to say, rotten tomatoes? In Arab culture the sole of one's shoe is considered the ultimate insult.
SEE THE HILARIOUS INCIDENT BELOW:
Mr Bush and the Iraqi prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, were meeting to sign an accord calling for US troops to pull out of Iraq by 2011.
There was an uncomfortable smile shared between the two leaders following 'shoegate' as everyone took in just quite how unpopular Mr Bush has become.
Meanwhile, the perpetrator was leapt on by Iraqi security officials and US secret service agents and dragged from the room kicking and screaming.
When quizzed about the attack, Bush joked: 'All I can report is a size 10. I didn't feel the least bit threatened by it.'
