X Factor judge Simon Cowell has intimated that Robbie Williams may take to the stage in a surprise appearance on this weekend's show finale.

As rumours circle this week that Robbie is set to rejoin the Take That boys to tour next year, the X Factor gig would work wonders at reintroducing the ailing star to a UK audience.

The hint follows a meltdown behind the scenes at X Factor HQ after R&B star Rihanna, who was set to perform her hit single Umbrella with JLS on Saturday, pulled out of the live final.

An insider from the show told The Mirror: 'She was scheduled to perform with JLS but now it’s not happening. The band were absolutely gutted, especially since they had been practising her hit Umbrella.'

In a press conference yesterday, Simon Cowell dropped the Rihanna bombshell but added that there have been all manner of changes to the line-up, promising surprises galore for the viewers.

When quizzed about the ex-Take That star's alleged appearance, Cowell remained elusive: 'I would love Robbie to be there on Saturday night. And it's never too late. He's still one of the biggest stars in the world. He's great.'

He added: 'You might be surprised on Saturday, I wouldn't go along with everything you read!'

Hi guys, I'm English but have been living in Budapest for 10 years and I HAVE seen Robbie twice here live and he is fantastic. I love him and he is truly an individual star. Any show that includes him is worth watching! Roll on Robbie, you get better and better.
