Women play hard to get to find their mate

Women who enjoy the thrill of the chase are in fact determining whether their potential mate will be good at bringing up a child, a new study has found.

Scientists say that women use their wiley ways by playing hard to get so that men rise to the challenge and try to prove themselves against any possible rivals.

Professor John McNamara who carried out the research explained that coyness and helpfulness do tend to encourage each other. However he admitted that some men have learned to cheat.

'The more coy females are, the more helpful men will be; and the more men around, the more coy women are,' he said.

He added: 'Eventually she will decide 'I am going to have a child with this male' or 'I am going to reject him and find a better one'. Of course there are men who have mastered the ability of conning women into thinking they are helpful.' Sneaky...
