Kiefer tells of 24/7 jail ordeal

Marie Claire Celebrity news: Kiefer Sutherland, Jack Bauer from 24

Kiefer Sutherland spent seven weeks in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol, but says the experience sobered him up.

'The lights never go out, 24/7. You can't cover anything. You can't even put your head under a blanket. All the cells have cameras in them,' he told Men's Vogue.

The 24 star says his time inside also help him quit smoking because it is banned inside US jails, although he has resumed the nasty habit since he was released.

'My drinking was not a daily thing, so it wasn't an issue. And, oddly enough, neither was the smoking. I was very glad to know that I could quit. And one day soon I will,' he says.

Kiefer also revealed that he had to share a cell, despite being told he would be able to see out his 48-day sentence in privacy.

'I was told, you know, 'You'll have your own cell.' But I didn't for the first two or three weeks; I had a cell mate. He got out – but not for long. He came back in pretty quick,' he adds.

Kiefer, we hate to point this out, but you were in jail. For being drunk while driving your car.

If the worst you had to endure was listening to your cell mate snoring – as opposed to dealing with the knowledge that you killed someone – then count yourself lucky.
