Reese in custody dilemma
Divorced parents across the world know how difficult it is to share custody of their children over Christmas – and it doesn't get any easier in Hollywood.
Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon admits it is tough trying to work out sharing her kids during the holidays with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.
'I think the most important thing is to be a grown-up and not let any kind of feelings affect how you deal with your children,' she tells People.
Reese, 32, has two children with actor Ryan, 34; Ava, 9, and Deacon, 5. She says the key to keeping everyone happy is 'a lot of communication' and 'just being very open'.
The couple divorced in June this year after eight years of marriage.
'I'm very lucky in that we raise our kids to just be happy. I think the most important thing is the children, what do they want, what makes them feel comfortable?' she adds.
The Walk the Line actress stars in new film Four Christmases, a comedy about the difficulties of families, step-families and anything in-between!
She plays the daughter of divorced parents and her own relationship troubles gave her some insight into her character's problems.
'I [had] a certain idea what I thought marriage gives, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way, so you have to be open to whatever comes your way in life.
'Love and relationships take all kinds of shapes and it's not necessarily the ones you recognise,' she says.
Reese is currently dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal, 27, but says marriage may not be in their future.
'I don't know. I don't think about it much!' she said.
