Strictly Come Dancing continued to provoke controversy this weekend when favourite Cherie Lunghi was booted off and, to the judges' collective horror, gawky John Sergeant was kept in.

The 56-year-old wowed the audience with her phenomenal pins as she performed the cha cha cha with partner James Jordan.

However, a lack of viewer votes saw the actress face Lisa Snowdon and her partner, Brendan Cole, in the dance off.

Judges Craig Revell Horwood and Arlene Phillips saved Lisa and Brendan, but Bruno Tonioli chose Cherie, leaving Len Goodman with the final decision.

'This is terrible,' said Len. 'I feel as though I'm kicking someone off the show because neither should be going, but I have to base it on that last performance, and for me the couple that edged it were Lisa and Brendan.'

So, John Sergeant, with his less-than-flattering nickname 'dancing pig,' lives on for another week. Oh, the drama!
