Men targeted for new Ugg boots
By Lucy Hutchings on Monday 3 November 2008
After becoming a must-have for women around the world, the Ugg Boot is now set to race to the top of men's wish lists.
Loved for their comfort and cosiness, the Ugg first found success when it was spotted on a host of stylish women, including SJP, Kate Moss and Sienna Miller.
Despite associations with female fashion, the style was initially developed for men, and were worn by Australian sheep-shearers, and then surfers and aviators in the 1970s.
Now brandishing the names of stylish male Ugg wearers, such as Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake and Leonardo DiCaprio, the brand is leading an assault on the men's market with a launch set to take place in Covent Garden this week.
Speaking to the Independent, Connie Rishwain, president of the US-owned firm Ugg Australia, admitted the task would be a challenge, but added, 'It's a feelgood brand. We're all about comfort and luxury. And at a time when people might not be able to remodel their house or buy a new car, they can buy a pair of boots.'
Even if they do get through to the boys, the real question may be, will women want to see their men in Ugg boots, or is that a style statement too far?

Uggs are great! I've had my short ones for a while now and love them. I've just ordered some longer ones with laced sides for this winter. They look best with shorts or skinny jeans

Ive had my short uggs for over a year now, and i still love them
just ordered some more as mine have been through a bit of wear and tear!
theyre great for every situation,i wore mine practically every day on my holiday in iceland, and i had warm feet 24/7... never mind the rest of me!
Why should they only be a womans fashion? Worn with the right clothes, they look great on men too, if it weren't for the fact that the majority of our population are shallow minded, i'd wear mine all the time.
They were originally created for men, so why is it seen as 'wrong' when men wear them now?
personally i think its ridiculous!

i have recently been thinking of byeing a pair off uggs but have never gotten round to it i was wondering if uggs have 2 be mens uggs or are the womens in shops now just as good for us men i think this will change the way we look at fashion in a way that just because one sex wears an item dosent mean the outher sex cant follow that trend if its rite its like trouses men only wore trouses at one time and shortly after women followed so why should trends be set to one sex

Ive just bought my husband some UGG boots as he wanted a pair! I dont see any problem with men wearing them i think they look great on men as well as women. Im afraid people in our country are very shallow minded, very quick to judge and obviously have no fashion sense lol!

My wife has bought me a pair of male Uggs for Christmas. Can't wait to get them. They are the latest in urban chic for the metrosexual male!
