Style round-up: X Factor vs. Strictly Come Dancing

Marie Claire News: Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole - X Factor

The fashion police obviously weren’t on duty again this Saturday night, as both the X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing continued their assault on all things stylish, to present the British public with another set of hideous fashion crimes.

So who was worst? Well Strictly has to take the crown this week, with Gillian Taylforth's cringe-inducing lilac minidress bagging top prize for the evening's most unsightly style.

It was a close call though, with Cherie Lunghi's putrid lime green creation and Heather Small's pink taffeta disaster both vying for the top spot.

The only saving grace came courtesy of the increasingly glam Tess Daly, who looked radiant in a glamorous red asymmetric gown.

Over on X Factor and things took a slight turn for the better. Diana's shimmering Topshop sequin dress was sweetly angelic, while Alex went retro in a sailor girl get-up, which included a suitably naval blue dress by Alexander McQueen.

However, it wasn't all good. Rachel's aqua ball gown was pure 80s bridesmaid, and Laura's ill-fitting gown was a crime against the LBD.

And what about the judges? Dannii Minogue ruled in the style stakes, wearing a full length black fitted gown, whereas Cheryl Cole swamped her teeny-tiny frame in a voluminous pink mini dress. One up to Ms Minogue.
