White wine just as good as red
By Carla Bevan on Wednesday 15 October 2008
We all know a glass of red wine a day is good for your heart, but did you know white wine may have just as many health benefits?
The latest research claims drinking one or two glasses of Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay can also help protect the heart during a heart attack, thanks to particles found within the grapes used to make white wine.
Traditionally, it was the resveratrol (which comes from the grape skin) found in red wine, but not in white, that was thought to be good for the heart, however, medics say resveratrol is not the only way to care for your health.
'The flesh of the grape can do the same job as the skin,' Dipak Das of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine told New Scientist. 'We can safely say that one to two glasses of white wine per day works exactly like red wine.'
