Gwyneth opens up to Oprah

Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up to Oprah Winfrey about the post-natal depression she suffered after having her second child.

The 35-year-old actress, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, said her feelings took her completely by surprise after giving birth to her son, Moses, now four.

'It was very strange, because I wasn't expecting it at all,' she told the chat show queen.

'After I had Apple, I would characterise it as post natal euphoria. I was on cloud nine, I was in a bubble and then when I had him I didn't feel okay, I didn't feel right.

'He came out and I thought, 'It's really strange, it's not the same, what's wrong with me?' I went down a slippery slope with it.’

Paltrow said it took her about six months to feel normal again.

She added: ‘I didn't realise what was wrong with me. I felt like a flatline. I wish I'd know because I would have gone on medication and addressed it.’

The actress hailed her close friend Madonna, who also lives in London with her partner Guy Ritchie, for helping her through those difficult months.

‘She is one of the most caring women and also a very tough woman,’ she said on the show. ‘She’s very wise and has a very soft, soft side.

‘She's given me a lot of great advice, she really helped me out of my post natal depression.’

Gwyneth also revealed that she ‘cannot diet’ because of her passion for donuts and relies entirely on exercise to keep in shape – she lost her baby weight from Moses by doing six two-hour workouts a week.
