Female Democrats swayed by Palin
Female voters in the up-coming US Presidential election are reconsidering their political position because of an affinity with Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, reports the Times.
Previously thought of as 'Obama women', many lifelong Democrats are now saying that they feel 'empowered' by 'role model' Palin.
'I like that she's a brand new mother and that she has the courage to stand behind her pregnant daughter. She relates to working women and for all of us who have children at home but have to go to work every day – she has given us a sense that we can still do it and can be an excellent mum,' were just some of the comments made to the Times during recent interviews in the battleground state of Michigan.
This apparent shift among the key demographic that pollsters are calling the 'Wall-Mart moms' – the white every-woman who juggles work and children - who want a Democrat in the White House but who are not convinced by Senator Obama, again raises the question of whether the Democrat made the right choice in failing to name Hillary Clinton as his running mate.
One young mother told the Times: 'I'm a Republican. But I would have voted for Obama if he'd picked Hillary. We really want a woman in the White House.'
