Snake venom face cream best-seller
By Lucy Hutchings on Thursday 11 September 2008
An anti-ageing skin cream which mimics the effects of snake venom, has become a best-seller since its launch last week in Selfridges.
Planet Skincare costs £60, and incorporates synthesised snake venom, which mimics the effect of a snakebite. Skin is left in a stunned state, as it would be if attacked by the reptile; an effect similar to that of Botox.
The formula was developed to mimic the venom of the Temple Viper snake.
The makers claim that the product visibly reduces lines and wrinkles in 28 days, with a 52% reduction in wrinkles and 82% increase in skin smoothness.
It first hit the shelves of Selfridges last week, and has since been selling 50 pots every day, to quickly become one of the store's best-selling premium beauty products.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Christine Benson, of Selfridges beauty, said, 'Products containing snake venom have been used for a few months now in the US, actresses especially love the effect. Unlike Botox it allows the face movement and emotion, but lessens wrinkles and paralyses muscles which cause creases.'

Sounds wonderful, but I could not afford to buy it so I hope I win some.

I love that comment: "Skin is left in a stunned state" - Yeah, I'll bet!

Some one is getting rich very quickly at other peoples expense. I have tired several expensive face creams and they were nothing special. The best ones I have used were Avon's Rich Moisturiser, which is only £1.50 per pot and one I got from the chemist which cost only 99 pence and contains aloe vera, which is a wonderful treatment for most skin problems. I am 58 years old and am often told I look nowhere near my age, so something is working.

Another so called miracle in a jar, there are so many and so expensive. I was stunned enough by the price so will not continue on to my skin.

I won't lie - I am affected by the presence of all these "miracle" creams that defy the ageing process, and am sorely tempted to buy them, even though I'm only 24. But I do wonder - if there were no wonder creams or if the beauty industry didn't bombard us with them, whether we would care half as much...?

I purchased Planet cream a few weeks ago and was very excited at the prospect of an improvement in my fine lines!
The first application made my skin look much improved, however two days in i developed a horrid rash which has become progessivly worse. This rash has spread over my face & down my neck and i now look like a scaly snake myself!! As i have not changed any other skincare regime i can only assume it has to be something in the cream that has caused this.
That will teach me. Next time i will stick to No7 and learn to live with the first signs of ageing.
I would strongly advise anyone buying this cream to do a spot test first before applying it fully to your face as i would not wish this nasty rash on anyone.
