YSL auction could be art sale of the century

Yves Saint Laurent's renowned art collection could be put up for sale, in what would be the largest private-owner auction of all time.
The collection is worth a reported £300 million, and includes pieces by Picasso, Mondrian, Warhol, Matisse and Goya.
It was left to Saint Laurent's former partner Pierre Bergé, with whom he built the collection, when the iconic fashion designer died last month at the age of 71.
His will stated that he wished the collection to benefit the foundation that both he and Bergé founded, either by being preserved by it, or sold, with all proceeds going to it.
Bergé is now rumoured to be considering selling the pieces, in what would be not only one of the largest art sales of the century, but the biggest sale by a private owner ever.
Mr Bergé runs his own small auction house in Paris, but with such a large collection on his hans, it would be likely that he will go to a larger house. Sotheby's and Christie's are reportedly already battling it out to host the event, The Art Newspaper reports.
Little detail is known of the pieces that the two men amassed, although
Sotheby's UK chairman, James Stourton described it as a 'room of
masterpieces' in his 2007 book.
