Coleen McLoughlin dropped as face of Asda
Rex Features
Coleen McLoughlin has been dropped as the face of George at Asda, with the supermarket set to trade her in for an older model.
McLoughlin's publicist confirmed that she would no longer be working with the supermarket label, and said in a statement, 'The contract came to a natural end. Asda are changing their campaign to go after thirty-somethings, which is plainly not Coleen's demographic.'
He did however add that this would not be the end of Coleen's modelling career, confirming that, 'She is currently in talks with a number of other High Street brands.'
Asda are now reportedly looking for a more mature face to front the George brand, with the Daily Mail reporting that they have set their sites on someone like Joanna Lumley or Helen Mirren.
George brand director Fiona Lambert confirmed the brand's new direction, 'its time to change the emphasis a little. We want to show that our core fashions are for everyone. Customers want us to concentrate on better designs and better quality but still maintain great value prices.'

I think Coleen was a great model, curvy just like people should be. I don’t think Joanna Lumley should be used as she is stick thin. I think Asda should use some nice looking mother, of an average height and build. That would then show us how we could look in there clothes, us normal everyday people.

I so agree with everyones comments - normal girls, kids and more mature ladies would look fab for their ad not just one person who is trying to be someone she clearly isnt. Someone with curves and a personality would be excellent or a family setting to promote all their clothes

why choose so called high profile people anyway, when did you last see any of the high street faces wearing the brands they front at the awards/dinners/races etc because i cannot recall them doing so.they should choose someone off the street who wears the clothes on a regular basis for the right reasons, style at an affordable price. give the people someone they can relate to, Dove got it right in their campaign using real everyday women.
get women in who displays the clothes in all sizes and still look good, the type of people who shop regular on the high street, instead of someone who does not.there are lots of overlooked people out there who would be ideal, who would love the job and and would no doubt appreciate the fee much more. then again this is just my opinion so who am i to say what goes on... i just buy the clothes,2 reasons, because i like them and they are reasonably priced.i have never made purchases because i have seen someone else wearing them.

about time asda dropped her ,why do stores feel they have to get high profile people to front their advertising, lets face it she only got into the limelight because she has a footballer boyfriend. i bet she wouldnt be seen dead in george clothes anyway. stores should use joe public for their adverts as only joe public buy their brands.

Fair enough. I don't even see why Coleen should have had this high profile campaign in the first place, just because her fella is a famous footballer!! There are plenty of people out there who work really hard and never get the be "the face" of anything.
If Asda want to use an older model thats a good thing; we are an aging population after all and many older women feel they are represented in campaigns. However I am 30-something and resent being compared to Jo Lumley & Helen Mirren, lovely as they are! They are my mum's generation not mine!

i think they way too old to model cooleen was just right for asda
Comment by m drohan on April 28 11:46
Can't any of you spell out there!!!
Helen's surname is Mirren. It's not difficult. It is in the original text.
Anyway, I think that Helen and Joanna are far too old and past it. They are just trying to copy M&S who have successfully relaunched Twiggy's modeling career. Lucy

I think it has been quite sometime since Joanna Lumley and Helen Mirren fitted into the 'thirty-something' age bracket. They are both fabulously glamorous, but they wouldn't encourage me to buy from George. I think George should have a re-think if this is true. xxx

how shocking coleen is beautiful has a natural gorgeous figure and stands for true beauty. shame on george at asda, shame.

Here here Asda it's about time that other leading stores took the same line.
The George range at Asda is fabolous and great value for money.
And it caters for all age groups and sizes.
I think cooleen has been a great ambassodor.
But i think Asda are right and it's time for a change of direction.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and you dont have to be twenty something to be beautiful.
And far from being off putting.
